Chennai, Nov 22 (NationPress) The AIADMK general secretary and Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, launched a fierce critique against Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday, accusing the DMK government of grossly failing to manage sexual offenders within its ranks. Palaniswami expressed his dismay at reports involving a DMK union secretary from Villupuram who allegedly harassed and sexually abused a woman for six months.

As per the complaint, the individual reportedly threatened the woman repeatedly while asserting, “the police can't touch me; I am the powerful one here”, leveraging his party position to intimidate her.

The AIADMK leader stated that this incident reveals a “disturbing trend” under the DMK administration, where women persistently face threats and harassment, often from those holding significant influence within the ruling party.

“What is the Chief Minister doing to address the plight of women under DMK governance?” he questioned.

“Are women now in need of protection from the DMK itself?”

Palaniswami further accused the Chief Minister of consistently failing to take action against party members implicated in severe offenses.

“From the Minister's associate caught in disgraceful acts to this union secretary accused of severe misconduct, the Chief Minister has demonstrated time and again that he cannot control sexual predators within the DMK,” he remarked.

Palaniswami challenged the credibility of the government's law-and-order claims, stating that a leader unable to discipline his party members cannot be trusted to ensure the safety of Tamil Nadu's citizens.

“If the Chief Minister cannot manage those within his own party, how can he protect the entire state?” he queried.

Labeling the allegations against the Villupuram DMK union secretary as “heinous” and “deeply concerning”, Palaniswami called for immediate government action.

“I demand that the DMK government, led by Stalin, take strict and prompt legal measures against the accused without any political bias,” he insisted.

He emphasized that the safety of women in Tamil Nadu cannot be guaranteed as long as those in power remain apathetic towards crimes perpetrated by their supporters.

The AIADMK leader reaffirmed that the opposition would persist in voicing concerns over such incidents, holding the government accountable for ensuring the safety and dignity of women throughout the state.
