Key Takeaways
Chennai, Feb 3 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin, spearheaded the DMK’s tribute to its founder and former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai on the occasion of his 57th death anniversary. A significant crowd gathered at the Anna Memorial located at Marina Beach on Tuesday.
Joined by Cabinet Ministers, prominent party leaders, MLAs, and numerous party cadres, Stalin laid floral offerings at the memorial, commemorating the lasting impact of Annadurai, who is celebrated as the architect of Dravidian politics and a key figure in social reform within Tamil Nadu.
Following this, the Chief Minister paid respects at the memorial of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi at Anna Square, acknowledging the DMK leader who furthered Annadurai’s ideological legacy.
Earlier, CM Stalin and other ministers took part in a silent rally that proceeded through Wallajah Salai and Kamarajar Salai, concluding at the memorial. Party supporters lined the route, holding portraits of Annadurai and chanting slogans that emphasized his dedication to social justice, rationalism, and Tamil identity.
The event successfully attracted a steady influx of DMK supporters and cadres from various areas across the city and neighboring districts.
Due to the large attendance and the Chief Minister's presence, the Greater Chennai Traffic Police implemented temporary traffic restrictions in the Marina vicinity.
Traffic was halted on Kamarajar Salai from the Kannagi statue to Wallajah Road to facilitate the movement of the Chief Minister and Ministers during the tribute ceremony. Vehicles coming from Santhome and heading towards the War Memorial were redirected via Bharathi Salai, Victoria Hostel Road, and Sivananda Salai.
A senior officer from the City Traffic Police stated that these arrangements were temporary. “The traffic restrictions were in place only for a brief period to ensure the smooth execution of the program. Normal traffic resumed promptly after the tributes concluded,” the officer noted.
In spite of the large gathering, the event wrapped up peacefully, with minimal disruption to the public. DMK leaders emphasized that Annadurai's principles continue to influence the party’s political and social strategies, reaffirming their dedication to the ideals he championed.
