Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is set to visit key manufacturing facilities along the Sriperumbudur-Oragadam industrial corridor on Monday, 3 August, as the state government intensifies its push to attract fresh investments, support existing industries, and upgrade infrastructure in one of the country's most significant auto and electronics manufacturing belts.

Planned Itinerary

According to the official schedule, Vijay will begin his tour at the Saint-Gobain India Private Limited World Glass Complex at Irungattukottai, near Sriperumbudur. The facility ranks among Saint-Gobain's principal manufacturing units in India. The Chief Minister is expected to interact with senior officials and review plant operations firsthand.

He will then proceed to the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) project office at Mambakkam, near Sriperumbudur, where officials are expected to brief him on ongoing infrastructure projects and industrial development initiatives in the region. The briefing will also cover facilities available within industrial estates and steps being taken to support both existing units and prospective investors.

Automobile Sector Visits

The Chief Minister will later travel to Oragadam to inspect the Daimler Buses India manufacturing facility — a key node in the commercial vehicle ecosystem that has anchored the corridor's growth. He is also scheduled to visit the Nissan automobile manufacturing plant near Sriperumbudur, which forms part of a broader assessment of multinational manufacturers operating in the belt.

Why the Corridor Matters

The Sriperumbudur-Oragadam belt has evolved into one of Tamil Nadu's largest industrial clusters, hosting a dense concentration of automobile, auto-component, engineering, and electronics companies. Its strategic location — with close proximity to Chennai, major ports, and national highways — has made it a magnet for both domestic and foreign direct investment, generating significant employment across the region.

Notably, the corridor has attracted marquee global manufacturers over the past two decades, cementing Tamil Nadu's reputation as a preferred destination for high-value manufacturing. The state government has been channelling resources into connectivity improvements and industrial infrastructure upgrades to accommodate further expansion.

Officials said Monday's tour will give the Chief Minister a direct window into the operational requirements of major industries and allow him to review the pace of infrastructure development in the belt. The visit is also expected to signal the government's intent to encourage companies already present in the state to scale up investments and generate additional employment. With Tamil Nadu in active competition with states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka for manufacturing mandates, such high-visibility engagements carry both economic and political weight.
