Thiruvananthapuram, June 13 (NationPress) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his disapproval of Israel's recent airstrikes on Iran, stating that such actions are unequivocally unacceptable.
“For a long time, Israel has been characterized as a rowdy nation. This perception is well-known and widely accepted. They appear to believe that with the backing of the US, they are entitled to act without restraint,” remarked CM Vijayan during a press briefing.
“What we have recently witnessed is profoundly disturbing, as an attack on Iran cannot be justified. This poses a significant threat to global peace, and there should be widespread opposition to this arbitrary action,” the CM emphasized.
This statement coincides with the ongoing campaign for the upcoming Nilambur Assembly by-election, scheduled for June 19. Nilambur has a considerable Muslim demographic of about 43 percent, and this critical stance against Israel is likely to resonate with those who hold anti-Israel sentiments.
It is notable that during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Vijayan-led Left leadership vocally criticized Israel concerning its actions against Hamas.
CM Vijayan’s remarks come amidst the presence of thousands of Kerala nurses working in Israel.
Despite CM Vijayan’s assertion that Israel's actions stem from its US support, officials from the Trump administration have attempted to clarify that they are distancing themselves from Israel's military action against Iran. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated, “We are not involved in strikes against Iran, and our main focus is on protecting American forces in the region. Israel has informed us that they consider this action essential for their self-defense,” Rubio noted.
Israel's airstrikes on Iran early Friday morning have significantly heightened regional tensions, raising concerns about a potential larger conflict between these longstanding adversaries. The strikes are linked to rising fears regarding Tehran’s nuclear ambitions and its perceived threat to Israeli security.
