Why did Congress and SP ignore national heroes while celebrating foreign invaders?

Bahraich (Uttar Pradesh), June 10 (NationPress) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath delivered a sharp critique of the Congress, Samajwadi Party, and other opposition factions on Tuesday. He accused them of neglecting national heroes while celebrating foreign invaders, driven by vote bank politics.

During a public assembly at the Vijayotsav of Maharaja Suheldev in Masihabad village, CM Yogi raised questions about the lack of recognition for legendary figures like Maharaja Suheldev.

“Why have leaders such as Maharaja Suheldev been overlooked? Why weren’t significant memorials, medical institutions, or universities established in their honor? The Congress and SP feared alienating their Muslim vote bank, leading to their silence on foreign invaders to protect their appeasement strategies,” CM Yogi asserted.

The Chief Minister claimed that while the BJP honored national figures like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the SP was engaged in praising divisive personalities.

“While we celebrated Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary and PM Modi inaugurated the Statue of Unity, SP leaders were lauding Jinnah. When we suggested honoring Maharaja Suheldev with Vijayotsav, the Congress and SP preferred to hold token events in the name of Ghazi Miyan. This glorification of foreign invaders must cease. Our national heroes deserve recognition,” he stated.

CM Yogi inaugurated the Maharaja Suheldev Memorial, built at a cost of Rs 40 crore, and unveiled a 40 ft bronze statue of the revered king. He also launched and laid foundations for 384 development projects valued at Rs 1,243 crore. The occasion also featured him planting saplings under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative.

He expressed gratitude to the local administration and residents for ceasing events honoring Ghazi Miyan, viewing it as a corrective step toward historical justice.

Recalling Maharaja Suheldev's legacy, CM Yogi remarked, “A millennium ago, Suheldev fought back against the invasion led by Salar Masood, a general from Ghazni. Despite Masood's army numbering three hundred thousand, Suheldev thwarted them at each juncture from Mathura to Bahraich. By the time they reached here, half of Masood's troops had been lost. At Chittaura, Suheldev and his 20-25 thousand warriors triumphed over one hundred and fifty thousand invaders. They captured Salar Masood alive and dealt with him according to the legal norms of that era.”

Yogi added that the BJP’s “double engine government” is committed to ensuring national heroes such as Suheldev receive the acknowledgment they were historically denied.

“The Bahraich Medical College now bears the name of Maharaja Suheldev, the district hospital is named after Balark Rishi, and the State University in Azamgarh also honors Suheldev. This is not a political maneuver; it’s a dedication to preserving our heritage,” he said.

He connected the event to PM Modi’s Panch Pran (five resolutions), asserting, “We must uphold national pride, respect the Constitution per Babasaheb Ambedkar, and work towards a self-reliant India. This journey begins with correcting the way we remember our heroes.”

CM Yogi also highlighted additional initiatives to honor freedom fighters and warriors who have been historically overlooked. This includes a grand memorial for Maharaja Bijli Pasi, who resisted foreign invaders; medical college and university in Jhansi, named after Rani Lakshmibai, among others.

He congratulated the BJP and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) workers for their enthusiastic participation, stating, “Your passion indicates that it is Maharaja Suheldev’s legacy that should be celebrated – not that of Salar Masood.”
