New Delhi, June 30 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Monday that the government is implementing tangible measures to transform the national capital into a pollution-free and green environment. “We are swiftly transitioning public transport to electric vehicles, which will significantly lower pollution levels and offer residents of Delhi clean and affordable travel options,” CM Gupta stated in a post on X.

Detailing the initiatives to enhance air quality, she noted, “We are effectively managing dust pollution at construction sites and key roadways using technologies such as smoke guns and sprinklers.”

The CM also emphasized the government’s tree planting initiatives under the campaign 'Ek ped, Maa ke Naam (One tree in the name of Mother)'.

“Tree planting has evolved into a social movement. We are dedicated to making Delhi a healthy, green, and environmentally sustainable global city,” she remarked.

In a previous post, the Chief Minister affirmed, “The Delhi government's vision is to develop the Capital into an accessible, inclusive, and empowered city.”

“Whether it involves enhancing healthcare services, innovating in education, establishing new safety standards, or fortifying infrastructure, our government is fully committed to serving the public with good governance and prioritizing the welfare of the underprivileged,” she added.

The Chief Minister’s comments on air quality followed a day after Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Public Works Department Minister and area MLA Pravesh Sahib Singh explored scientific solutions for developing a Clean Air Zone at Nehru Park.

Sirsa mentioned that the government is assessing the feasibility of installing outdoor air purifiers in public parks to create micro-climates with significantly cleaner air, especially during days of heightened AQI.

“This pilot project is part of a broader study that could lead to Delhi’s first Clean Air Zone, provided it proves viable,” he said.

Similar Clean Air Zones could potentially be established at Connaught Place, Khan Market, and other bustling areas. “These initiatives would be supported through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partnerships to prevent imposing additional burdens on public finances,” he added.
