Mumbai, Oct 25 (NationPress) In response to Congress MP Varsha Gaikwad's comments regarding the tragic suicide of a female doctor in Maharashtra—who faced repeated sexual assault by a police officer and pressure from an MP—BJP MLA Ram Kadam on Saturday criticized Congress leaders for their tendency to engage in cheap political tactics concerning serious issues. He emphasized that Maharashtra is entirely secure under the governance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and promised strict action against anyone found culpable.

This reaction followed Gaikwad’s description of the situation as “deeply troubling.” She remarked, “Having witnessed the incident in Maharashtra, the mention of the police officer in the female doctor's suicide note raises significant concerns. This is a serious matter, indicating severe failures in law enforcement. When those meant to protect become the threat, who can citizens trust for safety?”

In an interview with IANS, BJP's Ram Kadam stated, “The police are diligently investigating the incident to uncover the underlying issues. A technical analysis and thorough inquiry will reveal all the facts.”

Kadam continued, “Congress leaders have habitually resorted to cheap politics regarding these matters. This is the same Congress under which gelatin sticks were discovered outside industrialists' residences and which was embroiled in Rs 100-crore extortion cases. During their administration, the populace faced numerous atrocities. Varsha Gaikwad should not overlook this. Under Devendra Fadnavis's leadership, Maharashtra is completely safe. We will ensure strict measures against the wrongdoers.”

Meanwhile, police in Maharashtra's Satara district apprehended one suspect on Saturday connected to the female doctor's suicide, who allegedly took her life after being assaulted by a police officer and coerced by an MP to falsify medical records.

The suspect, identified as Prashant Bankar, is the son of the doctor’s landlord, whose name appeared in her four-page suicide note.

The deceased doctor, hailing from Beed district, was serving as a medical officer at a government hospital in Phaltan, Satara. On Thursday night, she was discovered hanging in a hotel room under suspicious circumstances. Alarmingly, she inscribed a suicide note on her palm, naming Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane and Prashant Bankar, accusing the police officer of rape and Prashant of mental harassment.

Following Prashant’s arrest, authorities stated he would be presented before the court, and his custody would be requested for further investigation. Meanwhile, Sub-Inspector Badane has been suspended, and a comprehensive inquiry is ongoing. Both suspects are charged at the Phaltan Police Station. Satara SP Tushar Doshi confirmed that the rape allegations and Prashant’s involvement are under rigorous scrutiny.

The female doctor, who reportedly ended her life, left behind a detailed four-page suicide note along with the inked note on her palm, accusing a police officer of raping her multiple times and pressuring her to issue fraudulent fitness certificates for individuals involved in police cases. Her note also revealed that she faced pressure not just from police officials but from a Member of Parliament (MP) and his aides.

She had lodged 21 complaints with various authorities, but no action was taken against her aggressors.

In her note, she recounted an incident where she refused to issue a certificate, which led to two aides of an MP visiting her hospital and facilitating a phone call with him. During this conversation, the MP allegedly made veiled threats.

Her cousin corroborated her claims about the doctor being coerced into falsifying medical certificates.
