New Delhi, Jan 18 (NationPress) Just days after the opening of its new party headquarters at 9 A, Kotla Road, the Congress party conducted its inaugural press conference from this fresh location on Saturday, highlighting the rich history and legacy of the esteemed political organization it embodies.

During the press briefing, senior Congress figures Jairam Ramesh, Pawan Khera, and Ajay Maken reaffirmed the party's dedication to fulfilling the aspirations of the youth and citizens, much like the party has done since Independence.

“This facility should transcend being merely a headquarters; it must also serve as a monument to the Congress party's influential history and contributions over the years,” remarked Ajay Maken.

Discussing the establishment and development of the new headquarters, Maken noted that the land was allocated in 2007, with the foundation stone laid in 2009. He explained that Indira Bhawan spans 2100 square meters, featuring an auditorium that accommodates 276 individuals, along with multiple committee and conference spaces.

He emphasized that each floor of the building, embellished with artworks and decor, symbolizes the Congress party's ongoing efforts and commitment to propelling the nation to greater achievements.

Maken further stated that the headquarters will function as the central hub, where party officials and committees will collaborate to formulate strategies.

“The construction of the new headquarters cost an estimated Rs 200-225 crore,” disclosed the party’s treasurer to the media, adding that this was insignificant compared to the ruling party's expenditures.

Maken also revealed that the land at 9 A, Kotla Road was granted to the Congress while he served as the Urban Development Minister during the UPA government, and he was now addressing the first press conference from the new headquarters.

He shared that the building was funded through contributions from workers and supporters who uphold the Congress’ principles of inclusive growth and progress.

“There is no undisclosed funding. All present here, including Jairam Ramesh, myself, and Pawan Khera, have made substantial contributions from our earnings for this project,” he clarified, dismissing inquiries about secret funding.

When asked about the possibility of the party undergoing an ideological shift alongside its infrastructural transition (moving from 24 Akbar Road to 9 A Kotla Road), Maken responded, “The grand old party will persist in advocating the ideals and principles it has upheld since Independence.”

The Congress party’s new headquarters was officially launched by Sonia Gandhi, leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party, on Wednesday, signifying a notable transition from the party’s residence of nearly five decades.

The building has been named Indira Bhawan in tribute to India’s first female Prime Minister. It includes several boardrooms across its six floors, a spacious atrium, and features an “open office” layout.

Interestingly, the new Congress headquarters is conveniently located within walking distance of the BJP office on DDU Marg. The party has opted to position the main entrance of its new building on Kotla Road, rather than on DDU Marg, which is named after the Jana Sangh ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyay.
