Will Congress Restore Statehood for J&K at Jantar Mantar?

Delhi, July 22 (NationPress) Leaders from the J&K Congress, under the guidance of JK Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president, Tariq Hameed Karra, organized a significant protest at Jantar Mantar, advocating for the swift restoration of statehood to Jammu & Kashmir and the inclusion of the Ladakh region in the 6th Schedule.

The demonstration coincided with the ongoing Monsoon session in both houses of Parliament. Notable Congress figures, including Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress president, and Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, expressed their unwavering support for the J&K Congress leaders and activists who gathered at Jantar Mantar to voice their demands for restoring statehood and constitutional rights.

A spokesperson for the Congress highlighted that over 500 Congress workers and leaders from various parts of Jammu & Kashmir made their way to Delhi via buses, chanting slogans like ‘Delhi Chalo’ and ‘Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq.’ Despite enduring lengthy travels and security limitations, they united to amplify the voices of the people from the former state.

Participants carried placards with messages such as ‘Loktantra Bahal Karo’, ‘Statehood Wapas Karo’, and ‘Jammu Kashmir Ke Saath Nyaay Karo’. The event was marked by spirited speeches, patriotic chants, and a collective appeal to terminate bureaucratic governance and restore democracy.

During the protest, AICC General Secretary (Organisation) K. C. Venugopal stated that the Lt. Governor’s admission of serious security failures related to the Pahalgam terror attack supports their position. “Unelected, unaccountable administrators cannot substitute a democratically elected government. Jammu & Kashmir deserves its dignity, assembly, and representation. The Congress Party will tirelessly pursue the restoration of democracy,” he asserted.

This protest in Delhi is part of the Congress party’s ongoing movement and follows two significant demonstrations previously conducted in Jammu and Srinagar.

On Sunday, the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) executed a notable protest in the city center of Jammu, where President Tariq Hameed Karra and CLP Leader G.A. Mir were detained by law enforcement while lawfully demanding statehood, democratic elections, and the restoration of constitutional rights.

According to a party representative, despite facing police action, hundreds of Congress supporters remained unyielding, indicating the rising public discontent towards the BJP’s oppressive policies.

On Saturday, a protest occurred at the Congress headquarters in Srinagar, where senior leaders addressed a large assembly of grassroots members, who were confined on-site by state authorities.
