New Delhi, Sep 8 (NationPress) Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Corporate Affairs, Harsh Malhotra, vehemently criticized Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday for allegedly ridiculing a farmer’s distress. Malhotra asserted that Kharge's insensitivity stems from the fact that the Congress’s own crops are failing.
These remarks come in light of a viral video showcasing Kharge seated with an aide as a distressed farmer approaches him to explain that his four-acre field has been devastated by flooding. Rather than expressing sympathy, Kharge stated he too faced losses on 40 acres and added, “Don’t come here for publicity”, igniting a political uproar.
In a statement to IANS, Malhotra remarked, “Congress’s crops are being ruined. This is their third or fourth generation of leadership. Even longtime leaders like Sonia Gandhi understand that Rahul Gandhi cannot steer the party or society. Kharge’s remarks were not only insensitive to the farmer but also mirror the internal turmoil within the Congress leadership.”
According to Malhotra, Kharge’s statement wasn’t just about one farmer; it epitomized the party’s disconnect from real-world issues and the increasing alienation from public concerns.
The Union Minister also criticized Kharge’s recent comments regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s relationship with US President Donald Trump. Kharge claimed that he does not place significant value on their friendship and accused PM Modi of “spoiling the atmosphere” and becoming an “enemy of the nation.”
Malhotra countered, “The Congress party and Kharge should focus on their own issues. The citizens of this nation care about PM Modi. Each BJP MP, minister, and worker is dedicated to serving the people. Our government has implemented crucial reforms—just look at the GST changes.”
He elaborated that the Finance Ministry has streamlined GST slabs to only two: 5% and 18%. “This is the first time in history such comprehensive reform has occurred. Everyone, from small traders to large enterprises, is benefiting. Congress had ample time to do this—they failed. We succeeded.”
Regarding Rahul Gandhi’s trip to Malaysia, Malhotra commented, “Rahul Gandhi appears disconnected from this country. Whether it’s him or Kharge, neither seems interested in the welfare of ordinary citizens.”
Highlighting ongoing public welfare initiatives, Malhotra mentioned the upcoming Seva Pakhwada, which will be organized in honor of PM Modi’s birthday on September 17.
“PM Modi has been tirelessly working for 11 years. His government has introduced over 250 welfare schemes that are transforming lives. To celebrate his birthday, the Ministry of Social Justice, in collaboration with BJP workers, will organize camps to provide assistive devices to the elderly and persons with disabilities,” he said.
The Seva Pakhwada will continue until October 2, reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and service-oriented governance.
