Chennai, Dec 29 (NationPress) The Communist Party of India (CPI) has made a strong appeal to the Tamil Nadu government, urging the immediate regularisation of thousands of differently-abled individuals who have been serving in various government and government-aided departments on a temporary basis for years, without essential service benefits or job security.
In a statement released on Monday, CPI Tamil Nadu State Secretary M. Veerapandian highlighted that numerous differently-abled workers across the state are currently engaged in temporary roles, often receiving lump-sum payments, consolidated wages, special allowances, and daily wages. Despite their years of dedicated service, these employees have been denied permanent status, equal pay, and other benefits typically afforded to regular government employees.
He noted that the Tamil Nadu government previously issued Government Order No. 151, which mandates that all differently-abled individuals who have served for more than two years in government roles should be regularised without any conditions. However, this order has not been implemented effectively, leaving thousands of employees in a precarious situation.
In light of this ongoing injustice, the Tamil Nadu All Departments Differently-Abled Employees Federation has initiated an indefinite sit-in protest beginning December 29 outside the Tamil Nadu State Commissionerate for the Differently Abled in Chennai. The demonstrators, along with their families, are demanding the swift implementation of the government order and the regularisation of their employment.
“The government has consistently overlooked the rightful demands of differently-abled employees who have faithfully served the state for many years. Denying them permanent status and essential employment rights is both unfair and inhumane,” stated the CPI state secretary. He urged the Tamil Nadu government to engage in immediate discussions with the representatives of the protesting employees and take prompt action to address their concerns.
The CPI’s state executive committee has pledged full support for the protest and called on the government to fulfill its moral and legal obligations towards differently-abled employees without further delay.
The party cautioned that prolonged inaction would escalate the protests and diminish the faith of vulnerable communities in the government's commitment to social justice and inclusive governance.
