Kolkata, Feb 3 (NationPress) The CPI-M is preparing for its 24th party Congress scheduled in April in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. On Monday, the party unveiled a draft political resolution that prioritizes an "independent political line" for the upcoming period, moving away from previous electoral agreements.
"The party must concentrate on its independent political campaign and mobilize the masses around its political platform. It is crucial to maintain our distinct identity and ensure our independent activities are not compromised by electoral collaborations or alliances," stated excerpts from the draft political resolution, which is available with IANS.
Regarding the preservation of this independent stance, the draft cautiously referenced the situations in Tripura and West Bengal, where the CPI-M-led Left Front had previously engaged in electoral agreements and seat-sharing during past elections.
"A notable enhancement in the party's strength necessitates the revitalization and growth of both the party and the Left in West Bengal and Tripura. In West Bengal, while engaging in mass movements and struggles, there should be a keen focus on the rural poor and efforts to organize them. Additionally, the party must intensify its political and ideological opposition to the BJP while also countering both TMC and BJP," emphasized the draft political resolution from the perspective of West Bengal.
In Tripura, the draft resolution encourages the state party unit to reinforce grassroots organization and initiate programs that unite the working populace while addressing the unique needs of tribal communities.
From a national viewpoint, the draft resolution highlights the importance of enhancing influence among workers in the organized manufacturing sector and underscores the need to organize contractual workers within this sector as well.
Nevertheless, the document also clarifies that CPI-M will collaborate with constituents of the INDIA bloc within Parliament, but strictly on “agreed issues” outside of Parliament. It emphasizes that suitable political strategies should be implemented as per this political line to "maximize the pooling of anti-BJP votes".
Furthermore, the draft resolution emphasizes direct campaigns and struggles addressing issues of social and caste oppression along with gender discrimination. "Struggles against social oppression must be interconnected with struggles against class exploitation," the document stated.
