New Delhi, June 18 (NationPress) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) vehemently criticized the aggressive stance taken by the United States and the G7 nations regarding the rising tensions with Iran in a statement released on Wednesday.
In a strongly worded message from its Politburo, the CPI-M accused US President Donald Trump of issuing provocative remarks that could potentially drag the entire West Asian region into chaos and conflict.
“Trump’s blatant threats to target Iranian leaders and his insistence on Iran's unconditional surrender are unacceptable. The substantial deployment of US military forces indicates a willingness to collaborate with Israel in launching direct assaults on Iran. These actions are incredibly perilous and could further destabilize the region,” the communique stated.
The CPI-M also took aim at the G7's statement, arguing that it unfairly places blame on Iran while ignoring the unchecked aggression from Israel.
The party contended that Israel holds the main culpability for the intensifying regional turmoil, highlighting its military operations not just in Gaza but also in Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and now, reportedly, against Iran.
“The US and Western imperialism are utilizing Israel as a rogue proxy to exert dominance over West Asia and beyond, in clear violation of international laws and treaties,” the statement continued.
The CPI-M called for the international community to swiftly take action to restrain both the US and Israel and urged the BJP-led Indian government to reassess its pro-US, pro-Israel foreign policy.
This statement followed remarks from Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who labeled Israel a “rogue nation” due to its militaristic behavior in the area during his campaign for the Nilambur Assembly by-election.
In a sharp response, V.D. Satheesan, the Leader of the Opposition in Kerala and a senior Congress figure, accused the CPI-M of political opportunism.
“The CPI-M adjusts its rhetoric based on the constituency. In Nilambur, where Muslims constitute 43 percent of the populace, they criticize Israel, but in Kottayam, they display images of Mother Teresa to resonate with the Christian demographic. Let’s not forget their prior use of Saddam Hussein’s posters during elections,” Satheesan remarked.
He also pointed out what he perceives as a discrepancy between the CPI-M’s anti-West rhetoric and the personal choices of its leaders.
“Every time the CPI-M attacks the US, social media buzzes with reminders that top CPI-M leaders, including Vijayan, frequently travel to the US for medical care. Their children attend Western universities, even as the party champions Kerala’s public education system as world-class,” he stated.
The CPI-M currently governs only Kerala, having lost its previous strongholds in West Bengal and Tripura, and is now a reduced presence in national politics.
