New Delhi, Nov 26 (NationPress) The Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, under the leadership of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, welcomed the parliamentary delegation from Cyprus, presided over by Annita Demetriou, the President of the House of Representatives, for a meaningful dialogue on pressing global matters.
During this meeting, Tharoor highlighted, "The Parliamentary Standing Committee engaged with President Demetriou and her team today, focusing on contemporary issues. We identified mutual complementarities and synergies between our nations, discovering common ground on significant global challenges. Both parties agreed to enhance economic collaboration, investment, and mobility between India and Cyprus. Our excellent discussion concluded with a ceremonial exchange of gifts," as he noted on X post-meeting.
Earlier, the Cypriot delegation met with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where she expressed optimism about the strengthening ties between India and Cyprus across all collaborative sectors.

On Tuesday, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar held discussions with the visiting Cyprus parliamentary delegation, expressing confidence that Cyprus' impending European Union Presidency will bolster ties between India and the EU.
"It was a pleasure to interact with the parliamentary delegation from Cyprus, led by President Annita Demetriou. We explored extensive discussions on our bilateral cooperation, founded on shared democratic values, respect for territorial integrity, and a strong stance against terrorism and radicalization. I am confident that Cyprus’ upcoming EU Presidency will further enhance India-EU relations," EAM Jaishankar mentioned on X.
The Cyprus parliamentary delegation also met Vice President C P Radhakrishnan on Tuesday. The two parties deliberated on the bilateral relationship and the essential role of ongoing parliamentary exchanges to fortify their connections.
In a statement on X, the Vice President's Office indicated, "Hon’ble Vice President of India and Chairman, Rajya Sabha, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan convened a meeting with the Cyprus Parliamentary Delegation, led by H.E. Ms. Annita Demetriou, today at the Parliament House in New Delhi."
"The discussions underscored the longstanding bilateral relationship between India and Cyprus and the significance of ongoing parliamentary exchanges to deepen ties between the two nations," it added.
On October 30, EAM S Jaishankar and his Cyprus counterpart Constantinos Kombos reviewed the India-Cyprus Joint Action Plan 2025-2029 during their meeting in New Delhi. EAM Jaishankar mentioned that they discussed the global geopolitical landscape, developments in their respective regions, and cooperation in multilateral forums.
"It was delightful to welcome FM Constantinos Kombos of Cyprus in New Delhi. We reviewed the India-Cyprus Joint Action Plan 2025-2029, agreed upon by leaders during PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Cyprus in June 2025. Our discussions also encompassed the global geopolitical situation, regional developments, and our collaboration in multilateral forums. We are confident that as Cyprus assumes the European Union Presidency in 2026, India-EU ties will further strengthen," EAM Jaishankar posted on X.
The Action Plan serves as a roadmap for implementing the Joint Declaration that was adopted during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Cyprus earlier this year, establishing short, medium, and long-term goals in key areas of cooperation, including defense, trade and business, as well as innovation and technology sectors.
