New Delhi, Nov 26 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in jubilation as India was officially granted the rights to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with Amdavad (Ahmedabad) chosen as the host city. This significant announcement was made during the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) General Assembly in Glasgow on Wednesday.

The Prime Minister took the opportunity to extend his congratulations to the nation for this remarkable achievement, tweeting on X: "Thrilled that India has secured the bid to host the Centenary Commonwealth Games 2030! Kudos to the people of India and our sports community. Our shared commitment and sportsmanship have firmly positioned India on the global sporting stage.

"Embracing the principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, we are excited to celebrate these momentous games with immense enthusiasm. We eagerly await the world’s arrival!" the tweet added.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised PM Narendra Modi for the success in transforming Bharat into a global sports hub.

"Congratulations to every Indian as we win the esteemed bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad. This reflects PM Shri @narendramodi Ji’s vision for making our nation a global sports center. Over a decade of dedication has resulted in world-class sports infrastructure and uplifted our nation's potential through efficient governance and teamwork," Amit Shah posted on X.

Signifying India’s return as the host of the quadrennial games after 20 years, the announcement sparked historic celebrations at New Delhi’s Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS) held a special ceremony in the capital, attended by Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, senior officials from the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), the Secretary (Sports), and top representatives from MYAS and SAI. Olympians, Commonwealth medallists, and sporting icons were also present, symbolizing India’s rising sports resurgence.

Addressing the attendees, Dr. Mandaviya called the day historic. "Hosting the CWG in its centennial year in 2030 is significant for both the CGF and us as hosts. Under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India's sports sector is evolving. Events like the Boxing World Cup, Hockey World Cup, and World Para Athletics demonstrate our readiness for international competitions of the highest caliber.

"We are also preparing to host the 2029 World Police Games, furthering our preparations for the 2036 Olympic Games, which we anticipate hosting. The Khelo Bharat Niti and the Sports Governance Act will also drive our transformation and reform of Indian sports. In the coming decade, India will break into the top 10, and by 2047, we aspire to be in the top 5. I encourage all athletes to gear up to make the nation proud," the Union Minister stated.

Dr. Mandaviya also emphasized the growing global confidence in India's hosting capabilities, citing recent accolades from international leaders, including World Para Athletics President Paul Fitzgerald, World Boxing President Boris Van Der Vorst, and Cuban Olympic legend Javier Sotomayor. “Such recognition affirms what the world already perceives: India is prepared. India has the capability. India has arrived,” he remarked.

ICC chair Jay Shah also branded it as a pivotal moment for the country. "A proud day for India as Ahmedabad is confirmed as the host of the Centenary Commonwealth Games 2030. This moment highlights the nation's commitment to fortifying its sporting ecosystem, enhancing infrastructure, and establishing enduring routes for athletic excellence. A significant advancement for India on the global stage," he wrote in a post on X.

The official statement from CGF earlier on the day stated, "The decision confirms that the world’s most populous nation will host this landmark edition of the Games, after delegates from the 74 Commonwealth member nations and territories ratified India’s bid at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow.

"India presented a compelling vision for the 2030 Games, centered in the Gujarat city of Amdavad (Ahmedabad), which will build upon the groundwork established by Glasgow 2026, allowing India to celebrate the centenary in style," the statement continued.

The ceremony in New Delhi on Wednesday evening featured a specially curated audio-visual film showcasing India’s Commonwealth Games legacy, from medal milestones to hosting the 2010 edition. The announcement was followed by a stunning laser show and fireworks, culminating in the revealing of the official hashtag: #CWG2030InBHARAT, representing India’s ambition and vision towards Viksit Bharat 2047. Consistent with India's commitment to sustainability in hosting large-scale sporting events, the fireworks used during the event were eco-friendly green crackers, which are non-polluting.

India had achieved a total of 101 medals, including 38 gold medals during the 2010 CWG in New Delhi, with 30 medals coming from shooting alone. In the 2022 edition, India secured 61 medals, including 22 gold. Shooting was not included in the Birmingham edition. Ahmedabad is the second Indian and third Asian city to host the Commonwealth Games 2030.
