Seoul, Nov 27 (NationPress) The leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, recently toured the construction site of a greenhouse farm located in the northwestern city of Sinuiju, according to reports from state media on Thursday. This visit aligns with the North's ongoing efforts to advance regional development initiatives.
Kim assessed the Sinuiju Combined Greenhouse Farm, which is on the brink of completion, as cited by Yonhap and the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
The greenhouse farm is being established in extensive parts of Wihwa Island, an islet within Sinuiju that faced significant flooding damage during last summer.
Since the groundbreaking ceremony for the farm in February, Kim has made a point to visit the site almost every month since August.
The construction progress of the greenhouse farm now stands at 97 percent completion, as reported by the KCNA.
During his visit, he expressed great satisfaction noting that the islet, once deemed desolate, has transformed into a promising area with potential for regional development and enhancements in the material and cultural lives of local residents, according to the KCNA.
North Korea is anticipated to showcase the completion of the Sinuiju farm as a key achievement of Kim's extensive regional development strategy at the upcoming party plenary meeting or a crucial party congress scheduled for early next year.
Last year, Kim introduced a strategy aimed at constructing modern factories in 20 cities and counties annually over the next decade to elevate the living standards of people in various regions.
In the lead-up to important party functions, Kim has concentrated on visiting sites tied to regional development in recent months, including a ceremony to inaugurate the construction of a hospital near Pyongyang.
