Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Seoul, Jan 30 (NationPress) North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for a construction initiative, marking the first of its kind this year under his regional development agenda. He emphasized that his policy will revolutionize one-third of the nation, as reported by state media on Friday.
Kim was present at the event the day before, which celebrated the commencement of a regional development construction endeavor in Unnyul County, located in South Hwanghae Province. He symbolically dug the initial spade of earth, as stated by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), announcing the inaugural regional construction campaign for 2026.
Beginning in 2024, Kim initiated his signature regional development strategy, committing to erect modern factories in 20 cities and counties annually over a decade, aiming to enhance living standards for the populace.
"This marks the third year of our regional development policy, with public health facilities and recreational complexes, in addition to regional industry factories, set to be constructed in 20 regions including Unnyul County," the KCNA quoted Kim during the ceremony.
"Consequently, nearly one-third of the cities and counties nationwide will experience transformation," he asserted.
The leader described the policy as a "testament to our unwavering determination to fundamentally and simultaneously improve the people's living conditions across the country," noting that it also showcases the nation's development potential, according to Yonhap news agency.
Kim expressed gratitude to soldiers engaged at construction sites under this initiative, referring to them as "creators of the people's wellbeing."
"I am confident that our party, which prioritizes the people-first principle, will persist in maximizing all potential for regional development and execute the annual plans vigorously and thoroughly," Kim remarked.
While touring sites related to the regional development policy, Kim has highlighted its achievements on multiple occasions recently, perceived as an effort to garner public support as the nation prepares for an important party congress anticipated next month.
