Key Takeaways
Seoul, Dec 14 (NationPress) North Korea has successfully established its second modern regional hospital as part of leader Kim Jong-un's initiative to enhance medical facilities across the nation, aiming to elevate public health services, according to reports from state media on Sunday.
Kim participated in the opening ceremony of the Kusong City Hospital located in North Phyongan Province, where he toured the newly built facility, as stated by the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
This new hospital follows the recent inauguration of the Kangdong County Hospital on the outskirts of Pyongyang last month, as reported by the Yonhap news agency, citing KCNA.
Describing the Kusong facility as “another invaluable creation,” Kim emphasized that it exemplifies the ruling party's commitment to fortifying regional areas and advancing public health throughout the country. He has also proclaimed 2025 as the “initial year of the public health revolution,” according to KCNA.
During a plenary meeting last week, the Workers' Party of Korea revealed plans to simultaneously construct modern hospitals in 20 cities and counties starting next year, building on insights gained from this year's pilot projects.
At the ceremony, Kim reiterated his dedication to constructing modern hospitals nationwide to establish a robust foundation for North Korea's public health system.
Referring to the Kusong hospital as “a prototype for modernizing public health,” Kim indicated that it should serve as a benchmark for the development of regional health services through its operational model.
He additionally highlighted the necessity to reform the state medical education framework, enhance the competencies of medical personnel, and ensure effective management and operation of modern medical facilities and equipment.
