New Delhi, 3 July (NationPress) In a significant operation against illegal encroachments, the Defence Estates Office (DEO), Delhi Circle, successfully reclaimed approximately five acres of valuable defence land located at Brar Square within the Delhi Cantonment.
Previously occupied unlawfully, this land, valued at Rs 165 crore, was cleared of illegal dairies, makeshift structures, and other unauthorized establishments.
The operation commenced after a military unit stationed nearby alerted the authorities. Led by the Sub Divisional Officer, this effort involved the collaborative support of the Delhi Police, Local Military Authorities, and the Cantonment Board Delhi.
The reclaimed land has now been secured for essential defence purposes. This initiative is part of a broader campaign by the Defence Estates Office aimed at identifying and removing unauthorized encroachments across Defence lands in the National Capital Region.
Notably, three acres of Defence land adjacent to Terminal 1D of IGI Airport were also retrieved recently as part of this ongoing effort.
Varun Kalia, the Defence Estates Officer of Delhi Circle, emphasized: “Defence land is a crucial national asset, and safeguarding it is our utmost priority. We are dedicated to eradicating all forms of encroachment and restoring this land for national security and strategic purposes.”
He also mentioned that further enforcement actions are planned, ensuring continued cooperation among all relevant agencies.
Kalia acknowledged the support of the Director General Defence Estates (DGDE) for their decisive leadership, which has empowered field officers to respond promptly and effectively in such situations.
He reiterated that this operation is part of an ongoing initiative led by the Defence Estates Officer (DEO), Delhi Circle, aimed at eliminating unauthorized occupations from Defence land in the National Capital.
The Defence Estates Organisation, operating under the Ministry of Defence and overseen by the DGDE, is tasked with managing and safeguarding nearly 18 lakh acres of Defence land across the nation.
It remains committed to ensuring this land is utilized optimally for national defence and public welfare, as stated by an official.
