New Delhi, June 8 (NationPress) A tragic incident unfolded in the Nehru Vihar area of North East Delhi when a 9-year-old girl was discovered deceased, her body concealed within a suitcase, according to police reports issued on Sunday.
The gruesome finding occurred on Saturday, with authorities suspecting sexual assault based on preliminary medical evaluations.
Reports indicate that the young girl had gone to visit a family member on Saturday evening. After a couple of hours had passed without her return, her family initiated a search.
A passerby alerted her father that she had been seen heading toward a residence located approximately 200 meters from their home.
Upon arrival at the location, her father found the entrance to a second-floor apartment secured from the outside. He forcibly opened the door only to discover his daughter's lifeless body inside the suitcase. Tragically, she was found naked.
In an interview with IANS, the father recounted, "When I reached that flat, I broke the lock. Inside, I saw the girl in a suitcase. She was unconscious. I rushed her to a nearby nursing home."
"My daughter left home to deliver ice to relatives who live close by. When she failed to return after a while, we contacted them, only to learn she had never arrived. As I began searching for her, someone informed me she had entered a nearby flat, called inside by someone. The building owner claimed the flat was locked and his brother had the keys. He stated she had already left, but allowed us to check. However, he quickly fled the scene," the father shared.
"When I broke the lock, I found my child there in a suitcase," he added.
According to police, the father immediately transported the girl to JPC Hospital, where medical staff pronounced her 'brought dead'.
"On June 7, 2025, at approximately 8:41 p.m., we received a report concerning the alleged sexual assault of a minor in Nehru Vihar at PS Dayalpur. Upon arrival at Gali No. 2, the Dayalpur police team discovered that the minor had been taken to JPC Hospital by her father, where she was declared dead," the police statement elaborated.
"Initial examinations by attending doctors revealed visible injuries on her face and indications of alleged sexual assault," it continued.
Crime and FSL teams are actively investigating the scene, while CCTV footage from the vicinity is under review to identify the perpetrator.
A case has been registered under sections 103(1)/66/13(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and section 6 of the POCSO Act at Dayalpur police station.
