New Delhi, Nov 8 (NationPress) Following significant disruptions in flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on Friday due to a technical malfunction in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has confirmed that the issue with the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) has been effectively resolved.
In a statement released late Friday, the AAI expressed its sincere regret for any inconvenience experienced by both airlines and passengers, reiterating its dedication to upholding the highest levels of operational safety, reliability, and service excellence throughout the nation's air traffic management framework.
The Civil Aviation Ministry reported that upon discovering the fault in the IP-based AMSS system, an urgent review was initiated, leading to immediate instructions to diagnose and rectify the underlying cause of the problem.
The original equipment manufacturer (OEM) was brought in, and extra personnel were assigned to manually process flight plans, ensuring that Air Traffic Control operations continued uninterrupted and safely.
A specialized team, consisting of officials from Electronics Corporation of India Limited and AAI, remains present on-site to monitor system stability and performance.
“The AMSS has been restored to its normal functionality. While minor delays in automated processes may still occur due to backlogged data, the system is stabilizing, and full normalcy is anticipated soon,” stated the ministry.
Previously, Delhi Airport utilized X to issue a passenger advisory, indicating: “Due to a technical issue with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, flight operations at IGIA are experiencing delays. Our team is actively collaborating with all stakeholders, including DIAL, to resolve this as swiftly as possible. Passengers are encouraged to stay updated with their airlines for the latest flight information. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.”
Passengers have noted delays, with extended waiting periods both within the airport and onboard aircraft. One traveler reported that the crew urged patience from passengers as the technical issue was being addressed.
