The event, themed ‘Pre-Independence Parliamentary Systems (1911–1946) in India and the Role of Indian Members in our Freedom Movement,’ seeks to revisit the development of parliamentary institutions during colonial times in India.
Speaker Gupta stated that the symposium intends to acknowledge the significant contributions made by Indian legislators who utilized legislative platforms to promote national independence.
He underscored the importance of this historical examination, pointing out that the ethical leadership and democratic ideals displayed by early Indian legislators still influence contemporary parliamentary culture.
“Their dedication to constitutional methods, public service, and national unity continues to inspire us,” he commented.
The symposium will feature two academic sessions led by esteemed faculty from Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University.

The second session will showcase discussions on the impact of the Central Legislative Assembly on Delhi University, the establishment of the temporary colonial capital, and Madan Mohan Malviya’s broader contributions to modern India.
Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Mohan Singh Bisht, will also participate in this significant event.
Speaker Gupta remarked, “By hosting this symposium, the Delhi Legislative Assembly reaffirms its commitment to preserving the legacy of India's constitutional progress and honoring the visionaries who laid the groundwork for our parliamentary democracy.”
