New Delhi, Jan 20 (NationPress) In a move to tackle traffic congestion, the Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, presided over an Expenditure Finance Committee meeting that sanctioned a Rs 1,471.14 crore six-lane elevated road project on M.B. Road, extending from Saket G-Block to Pul Prahladpur, revealed an official on Tuesday.

The significant infrastructure initiative in South Delhi aims to provide enduring relief from persistent traffic jams in the region, as stated by CM Gupta, who noted that the project will be implemented by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

Beyond alleviating traffic pressure, the project is expected to markedly cut down travel times. The completion target is set for December 2027, according to her announcement.

The Expenditure Finance Committee convened at the Delhi Secretariat, where extensive discussions occurred regarding the project’s technical, financial, and structural components before granting approval.

CM Gupta emphasized that this project signifies a critical advancement towards establishing a more organized and efficient traffic network in South Delhi.

Spanning nearly five kilometers, the project will unfold in two phases. The initial elevated section will stretch from Saket G-Block to Sangam Vihar, amounting to 2.42 kilometers. The subsequent stretch will cover the distance from Maa Anandmayee Marg to Pul Prahladpur, approximately 2.48 kilometers.

The elevated roadway will be constructed along the DMRC corridor alignment to ensure optimal synergy between road and metro systems.

This integrated structure will feature a double-decker design, with metro services operating on the upper deck and a six-lane elevated road below.

The initiative also encompasses the construction of two underpasses at Saket G-Block and along the BRT corridor.

This design will facilitate increased traffic capacity within confined spaces, significantly enhancing vehicle movement in densely populated areas such as Saket G-Block, Ambedkar Nagar, Khanpur, and Sangam Vihar, stated CM Gupta.

Additionally, the Delhi government has provisionally approved another six-lane elevated road of about 2.5 kilometers from Sangam Vihar to Maa Anandmayee Marg.

This proposal is being sent to the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, as the suggested alignment intersects the jurisdiction of Tughlaqabad Fort.

CM Gupta remarked that the project will substantially enhance South Delhi’s traffic framework. The chronic congestion on M.B. Road will be mitigated, average vehicle speeds will rise, and millions of commuters will reclaim precious time. She reiterated that this initiative reflects the government's unwavering commitment to equipping the Capital with modern, efficient, and future-ready infrastructure.
