New Delhi, July 28 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, has initiated an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Branch concerning the irregularities associated with the ongoing Barapullah Elevated Road Phase-III project, which has encountered significant cost overruns and delays.
During a meeting of the Expenditure Finance Committee on Monday, the CM assessed the project's status and acknowledged the pressing issues raised about the Public Works Department’s (PWD) negligence and the extensive delays.
The Chief Minister directed senior officials to guarantee the project's prompt completion, noting that a payment of Rs 175 crore to the contractor became necessary because the preceding government had barred the company from carrying out the work.
CM Gupta referred to the project as another instance of corruption and negligence under the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration.
She pointed out that the project, initially set for completion in October 2017, faced multiple delays and eventually went to arbitration.
The ruling favored the contractor with an award of Rs 120 crore.
