New Delhi, April 10 (NationPress) Delhi Lieutenant Governor (L-G) V.K. Saxena and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday performed a collective evaluation of the Pollution Control Center in the Wazirabad district as part of the government's heightened commitment to cleaning the Yamuna River.
The inspection also revolved around prospective projects aimed at converting the area into a picturesque riverfront and a possible tourist destination.
The assessment commenced at the Wazirabad Pollution Control Center, a vital location where the Wazirabad and Najafgarh drains meet before flowing into the Yamuna.
Officials are devising a detailed strategy to treat wastewater at this juncture and to further improve the area with a pedestrian pathway and leisure amenities.
CM Rekha Gupta and L-G Saxena were joined by Minister Pravesh Verma and senior representatives from relevant departments. During the inspection, officials updated the leaders on the current developments and conveyed that, with an organized and effective approach, the region holds the promise of becoming a significant public area.
The wastewater from the Wazirabad drain is processed at the Pollution Control Center, following which the Najafgarh drain proceeds to join the Tri Nagar drain before ultimately discharging into the Yamuna.
The Chief Minister and L-G stressed the necessity of intercepting and treating this wastewater 3 to 4 kilometers upstream, ensuring that only clean water enters the river.
During their discussions with officials on-site, both leaders instructed that a comprehensive plan be developed for the area's enhancement, aiming to transform it into a vibrant riverfront.
This vision encompasses creating a venue for morning and evening strolls, fostering local tourism, and beautifying the environment in a way that harmonizes with the natural landscape.
Officials indicated that such a transformation would not only benefit the residents of Delhi and nearby regions but would also significantly bolster the ecological integrity of the area.
The introduction of treated water into the Yamuna would help lower pollution levels and contribute to the wider Clean Yamuna Mission.
Pollution in the Yamuna emerged as a critical issue during the Delhi Assembly elections, with political factions scrutinizing each other's records concerning pollution, encroachments, and flood management. The BJP criticized the AAP, alleging it had not met its commitments to clean the Yamuna.
Moreover, the BJP has prioritized cleaning the Yamuna in its manifesto.
