He expressed gratitude to the Netherlands for their collaboration and announced that a tulip plant has been named 'Maitri' as a token of appreciation.

Ambassador Marisa Gerards highlighted that the tulips are being planted to commemorate the friendship between the two nations.

"We can observe that Delhi is thriving with tulip growth. However, our bond extends beyond tulips. We have a strong and enduring relationship that encompasses collaboration in key sectors such as agriculture, health, water management, and innovation. We are committed partners in these fields," she remarked.

The NDMC initiated the planting of tulip bulbs in 2017-18 as a trial to determine their seasonal adaptability. Starting with 17,000 bulbs, this initiative has significantly expanded, becoming an annual tradition for floral enhancement in New Delhi, according to a statement.

This initiative has been a remarkable success, establishing the NDMC as the first civic body in India to plant these exquisite flowers in public spaces, it noted.

This year, the NDMC imported 3.25 lakh tulip bulbs, planting 2.25 lakh in open spaces, with 1.46 lakh tulip bulbs specifically planted at Shanti Path, as confirmed by an official.

Tulips are currently blooming at various locations in the New Delhi area, including Central Park at Connaught Place, NDMC Convention Centre Lawn, Lodhi Garden, Talkatora Garden, Sardar Patel Marg, Mandi House, Windsor Place, Shershah Suri Marg, and numerous roundabouts.

As part of a trial involving storage and multiplication, 10,880 large bulbs were produced and subsequently planted, as reported by the official.

In collaboration with the Institute of Himalayan Bio Resources Technology – CSIR, 14,735 bulbs were produced in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, and were designated for planting in this Tulip Festival.

For the first time, the NDMC has made available potted plants from one lakh tulip bulbs, which are now for sale to the public at Shanti Path Lawn, Lodhi Garden, Nehru Park, Talkatora Garden, Central Park, and various NDMC nurseries (Safdarjung Madarsa, Gurudwara Park, Purana Quila Road, etc.), the official stated.
