New Delhi, Jan 18 (NationPress) Motivated by the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" initiative introduced by PM Modi, NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal participated in a dedicated tree plantation event alongside members of the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) in Laxmibai Nagar this Sunday.
A substantial turnout of local residents, RWA representatives, and various officials from the NDMC’s civil, health, garden, and other relevant departments joined the event. Each participant planted a tree in honor of their mothers, committing to its ongoing care and protection.
Chahal remarked, "This initiative goes beyond tree planting; it symbolizes our collective duty towards our mothers and the environment. Every tree represents an emotional bond and a commitment to safeguard her legacy."
He noted that special tree planting events are being organized under this campaign, encouraging participation from citizens, students, and both public and private institutions to foster community engagement.
During the campaign, tagged #EkPedMaaKeNaamOnSunday, various tree species such as peepal, champa, neem, and ashoka were planted by local residents and RWA members. Chahal emphasized that the initiative is scheduled to occur every Sunday.
The Vice Chairman also highlighted that the NDMC has facilitated tree planting in the embassy grounds of over 20 countries, including Australia, Denmark, Korea, Mauritius, The Netherlands, Poland, Sri Lanka, Portugal, Austria, Lithuania, and Russia, thus promoting international collaboration for environmental sustainability.
Chahal shared that the NDMC’s Garden Department has formulated an annual action plan for regular tree plantation activities every Sunday as part of this initiative.
He urged that if every citizen undertakes small efforts, it would significantly mitigate pollution and contribute substantially to environmental conservation.
Chahal also inspected the Palika Gram residential complex, providing essential directives to the Building Maintenance Department regarding ramp facilities for senior citizens, boundary wall repairs, and resolving seepage issues.
He stated that the NDMC’s ongoing green initiatives highlight the vital role of urban greenery in creating clean, healthy, and livable cities.
