New Delhi, June 26 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta urged the citizens to unite with the government, police, and community in the battle against the drug issue and to report any sale or use of illegal substances in their localities through helpline 1933.
During an event at the Yamuna Sports Complex to commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, CM Gupta stated, "This is a unified struggle against drug abuse. Every individual can make a difference. Do not be disheartened by the notion that one person's actions won't matter."
She emphasized the need to combat drug addiction, aiming for a drug-free India by 2047 as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "Our aim is to ensure that the youth of Delhi invest their energies into nation-building, community service, and positive transformations—this is our government’s main commitment," she shared on X.
CM Gupta acknowledged the inspirational leadership of Union Home Minister Shri @AmitShah, noting, "The Delhi government is fully dedicated to achieving this national goal."
Earlier at the venue, she called for collective action to foster a drug-free, informed, and empowered Delhi.
She pointed out that aiding law enforcement in the anti-drug campaign is akin to serving the nation in a uniformed capacity. "If we cherish our country and city, then fighting against the drug scourge is a remarkable chance to serve our nation and the youth around us," she stated.
She commended the Delhi Police for their outstanding efforts, which resulted in the apprehension of 1,100 suspects over the last four months under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
"Not only have the offenders been caught and prosecuted, but drug users have also been redirected to rehabilitation facilities," she noted.
She commented on the necessity of holding accountable the anti-social elements undermining society through drug trafficking.
"Drug abuse not only harms individual health but also disrupts family cohesion and societal foundations. Our objective is to direct the energy of Delhi's youth towards nation-building, social service, and meaningful change—this remains our government's core commitment," she reiterated on X.
