Chennai, Aug 20 (NationPress) The president of Tamil Nadu BJP, Nainar Nagenthiran, has sharply criticized the DMK government for what he terms a 'betrayal' of sanitation workers. In his statement, Nagenthiran highlighted that, according to promise number 285 in the DMK's manifesto, the government pledged to regularize services and implement welfare measures for sanitation workers.
Despite this promise, sanitation workers across Chennai, Cuddalore, Tirunelveli, Madurai, Tiruppur, and other regions have been engaged in ongoing protests, demanding that these commitments be honored.
Nagenthiran accused the DMK government of 'mercilessly suppressing' these protests through lathi charges, unlawful arrests of workers, and the detention of social activists who have come forward to assist them.
He questioned, 'Is this the social justice model that the DMK frequently boasts about?'
Furthermore, Nagenthiran asserted that the DMK has routinely 'misled' the impoverished and working-class communities with grand promises during every election cycle, only to deceive them once in power.
He urged Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to introspect on whether he feels no guilt for deceiving those living in poverty after winning their trust with false assurances. Rather than alleviating the struggles of sanitation workers, he continues to impose more burdens on them. This arrogance is 'truly shameful,' he commented.
The BJP leader cautioned that if the government keeps 'ignoring' the struggles of sanitation workers, the unrest could escalate into a significant public uprising against the DMK.
He emphasized that the BJP stands in solidarity with the sanitation workers who have been 'cheated and abandoned' by the DMK.
'Efforts to silence the people's anger and frustration through intimidation and police brutality will only result in catastrophic repercussions for this arrogant regime. The BJP will unwaveringly support the sanitation workers in their quest for justice,' Nagenthiran concluded.
