Chennai, Jan 19 (NationPress) The ruling DMK is ramping up its preparations for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, with party leadership demanding regular updates from the in-charges of each constituency. Party president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is meticulously overseeing the electoral preparations. A specialized team, spearheaded by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and party organizing secretary R.S. Bharathi, is managing daily operations. Senior DMK leaders and state ministers Thangam Thenarasu and E.V. Velu are also taking significant roles in these initiatives.
The DMK has appointed dedicated workers for all 234 Assembly constituencies. These appointments were made based on previous performance, with half of the workers selected for their contributions during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where the DMK-led INDIA bloc achieved a remarkable victory, winning all 39 seats in the state and the only seat in Puducherry.
Each full-time worker has been meticulously vetted and chosen after discussions with the party’s local leadership. Notably, these appointees do not reside in the constituencies they oversee, ensuring impartiality and effective execution of party strategies. The constituency in-charges must submit weekly reports to the state party headquarters, outlining progress and identifying strengths and weaknesses in their respective areas.
To improve coordination, the DMK has also appointed ministers responsible for each district. These ministers will work alongside the full-time constituency in-charges to evaluate performance and guarantee the successful implementation of state government schemes and programs.
The office of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is actively monitoring the performance of these ministers. CM Stalin is optimistic about the DMK’s capacity to secure 200 out of the 234 Assembly seats in the upcoming elections. Currently, the party holds 133 seats, and it is working diligently towards this ambitious goal.
During a recent high-level meeting at Anna Arivalayam, Udhayanidhi Stalin criticized certain party leaders for their lackluster performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections despite being assigned specific roles.
R.S. Bharathi, the DMK organizing secretary and a senior member of the core committee responsible for candidate selection for the 2026 elections, remarked, “Our leader and Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M.K. Stalin, has set a target of winning 200 Assembly seats in the forthcoming elections. The party’s organizational machinery is fully engaged to realize this objective.” He noted that senior leaders, including Udhayanidhi Stalin, are working diligently to ensure the party’s readiness.
Notably, the DMK has partnered with Robin Sharma, a well-known political strategist and director of Showtime Consultancy, to refine its campaign strategies. The rising political involvement of Tamil superstar Vijay is believed to be a significant factor prompting the DMK to hire a third-party consultant for its election campaign.
