Youth Wing Secretary and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin used the occasion to call on party workers to launch a new chapter of policy-driven public service.

Udhayanidhi's Call to Cadres

In a post on X, Udhayanidhi Stalin reflected on the Youth Wing's evolution from a fledgling movement into one of the DMK's most formidable grassroots pillars. He urged volunteers to carry the party's ideology and welfare initiatives to every corner of Tamil Nadu.

'The DMK Youth Wing, which was launched under the leadership of party president M.K. Stalin during a challenging period for the party by the #MISA_Batch, has today entered its 47th year. Let us begin the next innings of the Youth Wing by carrying out policy-oriented initiatives and public service activities that meet the needs of the times,' Udhayanidhi said in his post. He also shared a commemorative video recalling the wing's formation and tracing its growth over the decades.

Founding and Historical Significance

The DMK Youth Wing was formally recognised as an affiliated wing of the party on 20 July 1980, at a function held in Madurai. M.K. Stalin was appointed its first State Organiser, a role he held for over three decades — from 1980 to 2017 — during which the organisation expanded into one of the party's most influential grassroots bodies. This is the same generation of leaders, the so-called MISA Batch, who shaped the wing during a politically turbulent era for the DMK.

Udhayanidhi's Tenure and Key Initiatives

Udhayanidhi Stalin took charge as State Secretary of the Youth Wing on 4 July 2019. Since then, the wing has undertaken large-scale membership drives, recruitment of young volunteers, desilting of waterbodies, environmental campaigns, and multiple community service programmes across Tamil Nadu. Youth committees have been formed at the local level, and door-to-door outreach campaigns have been conducted to deepen the party's organisational network.
