Kolkata, April 10 (NationPress) Medical professionals protesting the RG Kar issue participated in the demonstration held by dismissed school teachers in Kolkata on Thursday.
The dismissed employees organized a rally in central Kolkata, calling for urgent action from the state government and West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) to differentiate between “genuine” candidates and “tainted” ones, while also condemning the police violence against the protesting staff that occurred on Wednesday.
Representatives from the medical community asserted that the demands of the dismissed educators for proper segregation were valid, as highlighted by the Supreme Court's division bench led by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar.
Recently, the Supreme Court upheld an earlier ruling from the Calcutta High Court’s division bench, comprising Justice Debangsu Basak and Justice Shabbar Rashidi, which canceled a total of 25,753 appointments made by the WBSSC due to the failure of the state government and the commission to properly segregate the “genuine” candidates from the “tainted” ones.
Actor Badshah Moitra, a prominent figure in social movements, also joined the protest rally.
He expressed that this situation is not merely a setback for the dismissed educators but a significant blow to the entire educational framework in the state.
“The teacher-to-student ratio in West Bengal is already inadequate. This crisis has emerged due to corruption within the system and the administration's failure to address this corruption,” Moitra stated.
A group of the protesting jobless individuals has initiated a relay hunger strike in front of the WBSSC office located in Salt Lake on the northern outskirts of Kolkata since Wednesday.
A collective of junior doctors had previously staged a similar hunger strike concerning the R.G. Kar issue last year.
