Kolkata, April 14 (NationPress) The parents of the junior female physician from the state-operated R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata, who was tragically raped and murdered within the hospital grounds in August of the previous year, declared on Monday their intention to participate in a protest march led by the "genuine" school job-losers in West Bengal towards the state secretariat of Nabanna on April 21.

The victim's father informed the media that the coordinators of the protest had invited both him and his wife to attend, to which they agreed.

“Similar to them, my daughter was indeed a victim of a corrupt system. Just as my daughter is entitled to justice, so too are the ‘genuine’ teaching and non-teaching personnel who lost their positions due to those ‘tainted’ individuals. We have resolved to support any movement organized for justice. Hence, we will be at the protest rally on April 21,” he remarked.

Significantly, the Supreme Court recently reaffirmed a prior decision made by a division bench of the Calcutta High Court last year, which annulled the entire 2016-panel of 25,753 teaching and non-teaching jobs from the West Bengal School Service Commission. This decision was based on the fact that both the state government and the commission failed to distinguish between the “genuine” candidates and those who obtained their jobs through financial means.

Commenting on the Supreme Court's remarks regarding the segregation issue, the father of the R.G. Kar victim expressed his dismay, stating that the widespread corruption has left many deserving candidates, who earned their jobs fairly, unemployed.

"Our daughter was also a victim of a corrupt system. She will never return. Nevertheless, we have chosen to stand with any movement opposing this corrupt system," he added.

The body of the victim doctor was found in the seminar hall within the R.G. Kar premises in August last year. This incident sent shockwaves across the nation amid allegations that the doctor suffered such a horrific fate because she had uncovered significant corruption within the management of R.G. Kar.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continues to investigate the possibility of evidence tampering in the case, while the initial inquiry was conducted by the Kolkata Police.
