Kolkata, Aug 8 (NationPress) Beginning this Friday, West Bengal is poised to witness renewed protests marking the first anniversary of the tragic rape and murder of a junior doctor from R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata last year. Various groups have organized these protests, which will continue until August 15.
The lifeless body of the junior doctor, who was brutally raped and murdered by civic volunteer Sanjay Roy, was discovered in the seminar hall of the hospital on the morning of August 9.
While Sanjay Roy has already been given a life sentence by a trial court, suspicions of a broader conspiracy surrounding this heinous act have emerged, prompting the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to look into this matter.
However, the CBI has yet to finalize its inquiry regarding the alleged “larger conspiracy” linked to the crime.
In addition to protesting against the state government, the movement on the anniversary of the rape and murder will spotlight the CBI's supposed inability to conduct a thorough investigation.
The victim's parents have initiated a 'Nabanna Abhijan (march to the state secretariat)' on August 9, urging all political factions to join the march without their flags, demanding justice for their daughter on this somber anniversary.
The parents are presently in New Delhi to meet with CBI Director Praveen Sood to voice their concerns regarding the CBI's progress in investigating their daughter’s case.
“We are traveling to New Delhi to meet the CBI Director and our Supreme Court attorney, Karuna Nandi. We hope to also meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, for which an appointment has been requested. We will urge the CBI Director to promptly file a supplementary charge sheet against those implicated in the larger conspiracy behind our daughter’s tragic demise,” stated the victim's father before departing for the national capital.
Nonetheless, he confirmed that they will return to Kolkata by the morning of August 9 to partake in the ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ that day.
