During his address, Chief Minister Lalduhoma highlighted the critical need for a compassionate, community-driven strategy to tackle the state’s drug issue.
He stressed the significance of establishing strong support systems for individuals facing addiction, as well as their families and communities.
“We require adequate rehabilitation facilities, that are equipped with skill training and sustainable employment opportunities to assist those who have overcome addiction in re-entering society meaningfully,” stated the Chief Minister.
He also mentioned that the government is currently engaging with various church organizations to partner in creating effective rehabilitation centers.
Commending the essential role of the Young Mizo Association (YMA), Lalduhoma, an IPS officer turned politician, remarked, “Our society must value and support organizations like the YMA, whose relentless commitment to the welfare of our communities is truly admirable.”
The event was led by YMA President Lalhmachhuana, who clarified that the drugs destroyed were part of those confiscated by CADS and had not been transferred to the Police or Excise Departments.
YMA Secretary Malsawmliana provided a comprehensive report on the variety of drugs that were destroyed on Monday, which included heroin, highly addictive Methamphetamine tablets, illicit liquor, codeine-based cough syrup, and dry Ganja (marijuana).
Malsawmliana noted that CADS apprehended 809 individuals linked to drug-related offenses.
Of this number, 440 received counseling, 37 were admitted to rehabilitation centers, 48 were handed over to the Excise Department, and four to the Police.
After the program, the Chief Minister actively participated in the destruction of some of the seized drugs at the YMA office.
