Guwahati, Sep 3 (NationPress) In a significant operation against narcotics, the Assam Police Special Task Force (STF) successfully confiscated heroin valued at around Rs 7.2 crore in the international market and apprehended two suspects during a well-coordinated effort informed by precise intelligence.
Following a tip-off about a shipment arriving from a neighboring state, STF officials executed a calculated plan and intercepted a vehicle in the Amingaon region on the outskirts of Guwahati.
A detailed search revealed a considerable amount of the illicit substance.
"Acting on intelligence, we intercepted a vehicle from a neighboring state in Amingaon, recovering 910 grams of heroin. Two individuals have been taken into custody," Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared on the social media platform X.
The Chief Minister praised the STF's efforts, highlighting the state government's steadfast determination in its ongoing fight against drugs.
"Operation #AssamAgainstDrugs is proceeding with full vigor," he remarked in his post. This latest seizure is part of a series of significant victories under the state's vigorous anti-drug campaign led by CM Sarma.
The initiative employs a multi-faceted strategy, focusing not only on street-level dealers but also on dismantling the extensive supply chains and financial networks that sustain the drug trade in the area.
STF officers are currently questioning the two detainees to expose the broader network, including the origins of the narcotics and their intended distribution routes within Assam.
This operation highlights the increased vigilance upheld by Assam Police along inter-state borders to prevent the influx of illegal drugs.
Investigations are still underway. In recent statements, CM Sarma remarked on the extensive nature of the battle against the drug trade, noting that traffickers have adopted new methods, including drones for transporting narcotics.
The Chief Minister indicated that with modified tactics, traffickers are now delivering drugs from distant locations, presenting significant challenges.
"In Assam and Meghalaya, drug carriers have been predominantly active, making this an ongoing struggle for us, which will persist. However, traffickers have been utilizing various methods for delivery, often employing drones for transporting narcotic items," he stated.
