Bhopal, September 3 (NationPress) Chief Minister Mohan Yadav convened a meeting with senior officials on Wednesday to assess the state of fertiliser distribution and stock availability across several districts, particularly those where recent reports highlighted irregularities and shortages.
The meeting, held at the Chief Minister's residence, saw participation from Chief Secretary Anurag Jain and other high-ranking bureaucrats, while district collectors joined via video conferencing to provide updates on fertiliser stock levels and distribution processes in their areas.
During this session, CM Yadav also evaluated the ongoing relief operations in regions impacted by significant rainfall over the last two to three days.
According to a statement from CM Yadav's office, "The Chief Minister carefully monitored the relief efforts and fertiliser distribution during the review meeting, issuing essential instructions to the officials involved."
Frequent clashes between farmers and local administrations regarding fertiliser shortages are noted, often escalating to violence that necessitates police involvement, despite government assurances of sufficient stock.
Recently, tensions flared in Rewa, where protesting farmers detained various government officials, including a Tehsildar, for hours due to alleged fertiliser shortages, prompting police intervention to extricate them after dispersing the demonstrators.
The unrest unfolded at the Karahiya Mandi fertiliser distribution centre, where farmers had been protesting since Tuesday morning over insufficient stock and claims of distribution irregularities.
The situation worsened when a group of agitated farmers confined officials from the state’s co-operative marketing federation and revenue officials in a room for several hours.
The Rewa district administration reported, "Some farmers locked the Tehsildar, Nayab Tehsildar, and other market officials in a room during fertiliser distribution. Police arrived at the scene and utilized mild force to release them late at night."
However, fertiliser distribution resumed on Wednesday morning under the supervision of senior revenue and police officials, with a significant police presence to ensure the process remained peaceful.
According to Additional Collector Sapna Tripathi, "Fertiliser distribution commenced in the presence of Sub-Divisional Magistrate Vaishali Jain, revenue officials Yashit Shukla and Shankar Shukla, along with Markfed's district manager Shikha Verma."
During the review meeting, the Rewa district collector updated Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on the situation.
Meanwhile, the opposition Congress party has announced plans to stage a protest in Rewa on Thursday.
