During PBD 2025, PM Modi Calls on Diaspora to Drive India's Journey Towards 'Viksit Bharat 2047'

Bhubaneswar, Jan 9 (NationPress) Highlighting the nation’s pursuit of becoming a 'Viksit Bharat', Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday encouraged the diaspora to play a significant role in India's development by 2047.

"India achieved its independence in 1947, and our diaspora was instrumental in this journey. They made substantial contributions to India's freedom while residing abroad. Our goal now is to transform India into a developed nation by 2047," stated Prime Minister Modi during the inaugural session of the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Bhubaneswar.

Commending the Indian diaspora for their contributions to India's progress, the PM noted that their efforts have positioned the country as the leading nation globally in terms of remittances.

Emphasizing that India extends beyond its major cities, he highlighted that a significant portion of the population lives in tier-2 and tier-3 cities as well as rural areas, urging the diaspora to promote 'heritage tourism' in the countries where they reside.

"There is a wealth of Indian culture abroad. We must connect the world with this heritage," expressed PM Modi.

He encouraged the diaspora to explore the stunning tourist spots found in smaller towns and villages of India, sharing their experiences with friends and motivating them to visit India as well.

"You need to take the initiative to inform the people in your host country about the true history of India. The current generation in those countries is often unaware of our historical prosperity, the prolonged periods of oppression, and our struggles. You can help reveal the authentic history of India to the world," the PM remarked.

PM Modi pointed out that India is embracing a philosophy of development alongside heritage. He mentioned that during the G-20 event, the Indian government organized numerous meetings throughout the country to showcase India's diversity. He also shared that the government plans to establish Thiruvalluvar Culture Centres to spread the teachings of Saint Thiruvalluvar.

Discussing the collection and digitization of historical documents related to Gujaratis who settled in Oman centuries ago, PM Modi remarked, "The narrative of the Indian diaspora is global, and the stories of their journeys and achievements abroad are a vital legacy of India. You possess numerous fascinating and inspiring stories that deserve to be shared, celebrated, and cherished. This is our collective legacy and heritage."

In his address, the Prime Minister also urged the diaspora to promote local Indian products in their respective countries.

"You have a critical role in elevating India's local products to a global platform. You should purchase Made in India food items, clothing, and other products," the PM appealed.

Referring to the diaspora as India’s ambassadors, he assured them of the government’s unwavering support during crises.

"Your safety and well-being are our utmost concerns. We take it upon ourselves to assist our diaspora during emergencies, regardless of where they are located. This principle is central to India's current foreign policy," asserted the PM.

Spotlighting Odisha’s cultural heritage, PM Modi remarked, "This region exemplifies India's rich heritage, featuring sites such as the Udayagiri and Khandagiri caves, the Konark Temple, and ancient ports like Tamralipti and Manikpatna. These treasures are a source of immense pride."
