Chennai, May 17 (NationPress) The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) initiated coordinated searches on Saturday at various locations associated with former AIADMK Minister Sevur S. Ramachandran as part of an investigation into a case concerning disproportionate assets.
Currently serving as the MLA for the Arani Assembly constituency, Ramachandran is being scrutinized for allegedly acquiring wealth that exceeds his known income sources during his tenure as the Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) while in the previous AIADMK government.
A team of 20 members, headed by R. Arul Prasad, Inspector of DVAC (Tiruvannamalai), commenced the raids around 7:30 a.m. at Ramachandran’s home located in Sevur village, near Arani town in Tiruvannamalai district.
At the same time, searches were executed at properties associated with his two sons, R. Vijayakumar and R. Santoshkumar, in both Tiruvannamalai and Vellore districts.
As per DVAC sources, these actions were prompted by complaints suggesting that Ramachandran acquired assets not just in Tamil Nadu but also in other states such as Karnataka during his term in office.
The goal of the raids is to uncover evidence of illicit wealth accumulation through misuse of power.
Industry insiders indicate that R. Vijayakumar is involved in the real estate sector, while R. Santoshkumar manages educational institutions in the area.
The investigation also includes a thorough examination of their business transactions and financial records.
This marks another step in the series of actions by DVAC against former ministers and senior leaders of AIADMK, facing allegations of corruption and financial misconduct.
As of Saturday afternoon, the searches were ongoing, and officials indicated that details of any seizures or potential legal actions would be disclosed once the operation concludes.
To date, the AIADMK has not provided a formal response to the raids.
However, sources within the party have suggested that they perceive these actions as politically motivated, especially with the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections on the horizon.
