Ahmedabad, Oct 28 (NationPress) In a significant step toward easing the payment process for traffic e-challan fines, the Gujarat government has unveiled a new feature that enables vehicle owners to settle penalties online via the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS).

Under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi and the oversight of State Police Chief Vikas Sahay, the Gujarat Police's State Traffic Branch has partnered with the State Bank of India (SBI) to roll out this digital initiative aimed at enhancing accessibility and transparency in fine payments.

Previously, drivers could pay fines using the 'One Nation One Challan' system, which offered options such as net banking, debit/credit cards, UPI, and PoS machines. With the integration of BBPS, users can now conveniently pay their traffic fines through widely-used applications like Google Pay, PhonePe, BHIM Pay, and YONO by selecting 'State Traffic Branch, Gujarat' in the payment menu.

The collected funds will be processed in accordance with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, ensuring verification and secure transaction settlement. This initiative is anticipated to boost transparency, streamline fine collection, and reinforce the enforcement of traffic laws statewide. Officials stated that this advancement represents a significant leap toward the Digital Gujarat vision, aimed at making civic services more efficient, straightforward, and fully integrated with national digital payment systems.

The traffic management framework in Gujarat has experienced a substantial overhaul, aimed at enhancing safety, minimizing congestion, and facilitating smoother movement throughout urban areas and highways.

The state has deployed Intelligent Traffic Management Systems (ITMS) in key urban locations like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot, incorporating AI-based cameras, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), and real-time monitoring through command and control centres.

In conjunction with enforcement efforts, authorities are prioritizing public awareness initiatives, driver education, and road safety evaluations to reduce accidents.

These collective measures—bolstered by digital technologies, improved inter-agency coordination, and active citizen engagement—are steering Gujarat towards a more intelligent, safer, and transparent traffic management environment.
