New Delhi, Nov 25 (NationPress) The External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar engaged in discussions with a visiting parliamentary delegation from Cyprus, led by House of Representatives President Annita Demetriou, in New Delhi on Tuesday.
EAM Jaishankar expressed optimism that Cyprus's forthcoming European Union Presidency will significantly enhance the partnership between India and the EU.
He stated, "I am pleased to meet the parliamentary delegation from Cyprus, headed by President of the Cyprus Parliament Annita Demetriou. Our discussions covered a wide array of topics concerning our bilateral cooperation, rooted in shared democratic values, respect for territorial integrity, and a strong stance against terrorism and radicalization. I am confident that Cyprus’ upcoming EU Presidency will further solidify India-EU relations,” as he posted on X.
Earlier, the Cyprus parliamentary delegation, led by Annita Demetriou, met with Vice President C P Radhakrishnan. They discussed the bilateral relationship and emphasized the significance of ongoing parliamentary exchanges for strengthening ties.
The Vice President's Office shared on X, "Hon’ble Vice President of India and Chairman, Rajya Sabha, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan held a meeting with the parliamentary delegation from Cyprus, led by H.E. Ms. Annita Demetriou, today at Parliament House, New Delhi."
“Our discussions highlighted the enduring bilateral relationship between India and Cyprus and the importance of continuous parliamentary exchanges to further deepen ties between the two nations,” the statement added.
On October 30, EAM S Jaishankar and his Cypriot counterpart Constantinos Kombos reviewed the India-Cyprus Joint Action Plan 2025-2029 during their meeting in New Delhi. EAM Jaishankar noted that the conversation encompassed the global geopolitical landscape, regional developments, and collaborative efforts in multilateral forums.
“I am delighted to welcome FM Constantinos Kombos of Cyprus today in New Delhi. We reviewed the India-Cyprus Joint Action Plan 2025-2029, agreed upon by leaders during PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Cyprus in June 2025. Our discussions also included the global geopolitical situation, developments in our regions, and cooperation in multilateral fora. As Cyprus prepares for the European Union Presidency in 2026, I am confident that India-EU ties will strengthen,” Jaishankar stated on X.
The Action Plan serves as a framework for implementing the Joint Declaration established during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Cyprus earlier this year, outlining short, medium, and long-term objectives in key areas of cooperation, including defense, trade, business, innovation, and technology.
Earlier in June, PM Modi undertook a two-day visit to Cyprus, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the nation in over two decades. During this visit, multiple agreements were signed between the two countries. Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides also honored PM Modi with the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia.
President Christodoulides also guided PM Modi along the ceasefire line in the historic city of Nicosia.
