New Delhi, May 8 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar emphasized India's unwavering commitment to combatting terrorism during a discussion with Adel Aljubeir, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, in New Delhi on Thursday.
"Had a productive meeting with Adel Aljubeir, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia this morning. Shared India’s views on decisively addressing terrorism," EAM Jaishankar shared on X after their meeting.
The Saudi Minister's visit to India, described as "unscheduled" by analysts, occurs amidst rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians. In response, the Indian armed forces initiated Operation Sindoor on Wednesday, targeting nine significant terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
On April 30, Saudi Arabia released an official statement expressing its concerns regarding the intensifying tensions between India and Pakistan and the ongoing exchange of fire along the border.
"The Kingdom urges both nations to de-escalate, prevent further escalation, and resolve their disputes through diplomatic channels, while adhering to the principles of good neighborliness and striving for stability and peace that benefits both their populations and the wider region," stated the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Saudi Arabia had previously condemned the Pahalgam terror attack in the strongest possible terms.
"The Kingdom reaffirms its firm position against all forms of violence, extremism, and the targeting of civilians. It also extends heartfelt condolences to the victims' families, as well as to the government and people of India," the ministry added in its statement.
On Wednesday, EAM Jaishankar also engaged in discussions with the foreign ministers of Japan, Qatar, Spain, France, and Germany, addressing India's military strikes on terror camps based in Pakistan earlier that day.
