Kolkata, Nov 26 (NationPress) In light of the recent demonstrations by certain booth-level officers (BLOs) outside the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office in West Bengal, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has requested an action taken report (ATR) from the Kolkata Police on Wednesday.
The ECI expects the police to submit the ATR within a two-day timeframe.
According to sources from the CEO’s office, top ECI officials are increasingly concerned about the safety of both officers and staff at the CEO's office. They believe that the current security measures in place are insufficient.
Reports indicate that the ECI has issued stringent guidelines to the Kolkata Police to implement comprehensive safety measures for the officers and staff associated with the CEO’s office, ensuring protection at their residences as well as during their commutes.
“The Commission has instructed the Kolkata Police to enhance security protocols, taking into account the sensitivity of the SIR activities and the upcoming elections scheduled for next year. The police are also urged to prevent any potential incidents moving forward,” the insider added.
