New Delhi, Jan 19 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) is gearing up to host the India International Conference on Democracy and Election Management (IICDEM) 2026, commencing on January 21 at the Bharat Mandapam in the capital city. The three-day conference, organized by the India International Institute of Democracy & Election Management (IIIDEM), will wrap up on January 23.

The ECI has described the IICDEM 2026 as the largest global conference of its nature ever hosted by India in the realm of democracy and election management.

Nearly 100 international delegates from over 70 countries will partake in this event, alongside representatives from international organizations, foreign missions in India, and experts in the electoral field.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, will welcome the delegates and initiate the proceedings during the inaugural session on January 21.

The agenda for the three days includes general and plenary sessions of Election Management Bodies (EMBs), featuring the Inaugural Session, EMB Leaders' Plenary, EMB Working Group Meetings, and thematic discussions on global electoral issues, best practices, and model international electoral standards.

In total, 36 thematic groups, led by CEOs of States/UTs and supported by national and international academic experts, will engage in thorough discussions throughout the conference.

Leading academic institutions, including 4 IITs, 6 IIMs, 12 National Law Universities (NLUs), and IIMC, will also contribute to these discussions.

The ECI has announced plans to conduct over 40 bilateral meetings with EMBs to foster discussions and collaboration on various challenges faced by EMBs worldwide.

Additionally, the Commission will officially launch ECINET, a comprehensive digital platform for all election-related information and services.

An exhibition will demonstrate the scale and complexity involved in conducting elections in India, highlighting recent initiatives undertaken by the ECI to enhance two essential components of elections—preparation of electoral rolls and election conduct.

On the first day of IICDEM, a docuseries titled 'India Decides', which chronicles the making of the world's largest election, the Lok Sabha 2024 elections, will also be showcased, as per the ECI.
