New Delhi, Sep 12 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday conducted a one-day workshop aimed at Media and Communication Officers from the offices of Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) across all 28 states and 8 Union Territories. The primary focus was on combating misinformation and enhancing the dissemination of factual data.
The event, which took place at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, saw the engagement of 51 Media Nodal Officers (MNOs) and Social Media Nodal Officers (SMNOs).
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alongside Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, inaugurated the session.
The Commission highlighted the increasing threat posed by fake narratives, reaffirming that elections in India are conducted in strict adherence to the Constitution.
“With the rise of misinformation, it is crucial to communicate clearly that elections in India are governed by the Constitution and to continually counter misleading narratives with facts,” the ECI noted in its press release.
The workshop's agenda included sessions aimed at enhancing the communication framework within CEO offices, ensuring that timely and accurate information is shared with the media and stakeholders.
A significant portion of the workshop was dedicated to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls, with a specific focus on media and social media engagement.
An expert-led session provided practical tools and techniques to combat misinformation, particularly in the digital realm.
This workshop represents the third interaction this year between the Commission and CEO Media Officers, following earlier programs at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) on April 9 and June 5, 2025.
By fostering a strong network of communication officers, the Commission aims to bolster public trust in the electoral process and ensure that voters nationwide receive credible information in an ever-changing information landscape.
