Kolkata, Dec 9 (NationPress) The chilling echoes of the Robinson Street incident have resurfaced in Kolkata. This time, a daughter was found in a locked room alongside her father's decomposed body. Her mother was also present, according to police reports on Tuesday.
This shocking event unfolded in the Kabsa's Bosepukur neighborhood in south Kolkata. Thanks to the vigilance of local residents, authorities were able to retrieve the body from the family's home on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Sumit Sen (64). His body has been sent for an autopsy, and the timeline and cause of his death remain unclear. Ongoing investigations by the police suggest that all three family members had been grappling with mental health issues for an extended period.
Local sources indicate that Sumit resided with his wife, Archana Sen, and daughter, Sampriti Sen, on the first floor of their home in Bospukur. He was employed at a private company, but following his retirement, neighbors took it upon themselves to check in on the family, as they seldom ventured outside.
However, for three consecutive days, no one from Sumit's household was seen outside, and their front door remained locked. This unusual behavior raised suspicions among the locals, prompting them to contact a relative of the Sen family living in the Kasba area. The relative called Sampriti, who repeatedly assured them that her parents were well. However, when asked to have her parents call back, no communication was made, heightening concerns.
On Monday, relatives and neighbors visited Sumit's home. The door was locked from within, and despite knocking numerous times, nobody answered. Subsequently, they alerted the police at the Kasba station.
A senior officer from the Kolkata Police stated, "Our team forced entry and discovered the man's body in a decomposed state within the house. The daughter and mother were sitting beside the body. A foul odor permeated the premises. The body was retrieved and sent for an autopsy. We are conducting a thorough investigation." The police officer added that the exact cause and time of death will be determined upon receipt of the autopsy report.
This incident recalls the notorious Robinson Street case from 2015, where the remains of an elderly man were discovered alongside his deceased sister's skeleton, which had been kept in the house for months. Partha Dey, who was mentally troubled, took his own life in 2017 after this shocking revelation.
Similar disturbing events have also been reported in areas such as Kasba, Garfa, Netaji Nagar, and Salt Lake over the years, with comparable incidents occurring in Murshidabad, Howrah, Barasat, and Memari.
