Hyderabad, Jan 31 (NationPress) In a disturbing incident, two young women remained in the presence of their mother’s decomposing body for four days in their residence in Secunderabad, a twin city of Hyderabad.
The situation was uncovered on Friday when police were alerted by neighbors complaining about a foul odor.
Authorities indicated that the sisters seem to be mentally unstable. They were later taken to a hospital for evaluation. The sisters have been named Ravalika (25) and Ashwitha (22).
The remains of their mother, Sri Latha (45), were moved to Gandhi Hospital for an autopsy. A police representative noted that the cause of death is currently under investigation, with suspicions that she passed away four days prior.
The family resided in a rented accommodation in Warasiguda. It is believed that the mother suffered a cardiac arrest and that her daughters were too grief-stricken to inform anyone. They opted to remain in the house with the body.
Authorities discovered the mother’s remains in one room, while the two daughters were found in another. Reports indicate that the young women also attempted to commit suicide by cutting their wrists.
The police have initiated a case regarding the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and are conducting an investigation.
The landlord mentioned that the family had only rented the house two months earlier and had two dogs chained inside. She indicated that she had requested the family to vacate the premises.
Some neighbors speculated that the daughters kept their mother’s body at home due to a lack of funds for cremation. However, police stated that the reasoning behind Sri Latha's daughters remaining with the body would only be clarified after taking their statements.
Following the instructions of Secunderabad MLA T. Padmarao Goud, the sisters were transferred to a hospital for examination. It remains uncertain how long it will take to record their statements.
