Election Commission of India Restructures Key Posts in Kerala Ahead of 2026 Elections

New Delhi/Thiruvananthapuram, March 17 (NationPress) – The Election Commission of India has mandated significant alterations in various crucial administrative and police roles in Kerala as the state prepares for the upcoming 2026 Legislative Assembly elections.
Kerala will hold elections on April 9 to choose 140 new members for the Kerala Legislative Assembly, with votes scheduled to be counted on May 4.
As per the official announcement, these changes were initiated after a thorough evaluation of election preparedness, prompting the Election Commission to enforce immediate transfers and appointments for five senior officers.
Among the changes, Narayanan, an Indian Police Service officer from the 2011 batch, has been designated as the District Police Chief for Kozhikode.
Thomson Jose, from the 2009 batch, will assume the role of DIG for the Thrissur range.
On the administrative front, Inbasekhar, an Indian Administrative Service officer from the 2015 batch, has been appointed as the District Collector and District Election Officer for Alappuzha.
In Kannur, S. Vandana takes on the role of Revenue Divisional Officer in Thaliparamba and will also function as the Returning Officer for the Irikkur constituency.
Sachin Krishna has been designated as the District Registrar General for Kannur, where he will also serve as the Returning Officer for the Dharmadam constituency, which is notably the stronghold of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
The Election Commission has mandated that all appointments be executed without delay.
The poll panel has emphasized the necessity for a fair and efficient administrative framework in anticipation of the forthcoming elections.
Furthermore, the Election Commission has requested the state government to provide a compliance report by 11 AM on March 18, confirming that the appointed officers have assumed their duties.
Additionally, the Commission has instructed that officers who have been reassigned should not engage in any election-related responsibilities until the completion of the entire electoral process.
In a similar move regarding the elections in West Bengal, the Election Commission recently announced the replacement of essential police figures, including the acting Director General of Police (DGP) Peeyush Pandey and Kolkata Police Commissioner Supratim Sarkar.
Previously, the poll panel had ordered the transfers of Chief Secretary Nandini Chakraborty and Home Secretary Jagdish Prasad Meena.
