Mumbai, March 19 (NationPress) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reiterated in the state Assembly on Wednesday that individuals who assaulted the police during the unrest on Monday in Nagpur will face justice.
“Let me be clear, we will find those responsible for the attack on the police in Nagpur. We will not let them go unpunished. While many things can be forgiven, an assault on the police is beyond forgiveness. Hence, the strictest measures will be taken against them promptly,” he stated during his response to the discussion regarding the Budgetary proposals for the Home Department.
The Assembly sanctioned a budget of Rs 36,614.68 crore for the Home Department.
“Currently, Nagpur is tranquil. It is renowned for its peacefulness. Since 1992, there has not been a riot in Nagpur. It is evident that the incident that occurred recently was orchestrated by certain individuals. The grave of Aurangzeb was desecrated, lacking any inscription. We have conducted a thorough investigation into this matter. However, misleading messages were circulated claiming that inscriptions were intentionally destroyed, leading to the outbreak of violence,” the chief minister elaborated.
“Those who disrupt societal harmony and intentionally spread such falsehoods will also face consequences. Some individuals have already been arrested. Therefore, we will not relent in our pursuit of stringent action,” he affirmed. “We encounter numerous challenges regarding law and order. Nevertheless, the state government is committed to addressing these challenges and ensuring optimal law and order for the state’s residents,” he emphasized.
He continued, stating that “in the case of the Nagpur violence, the Police Commissioner and I have not communicated separately.”
“The Nagpur CP mentioned that we are investigating whether this was a premeditated act. We have not reached a final determination yet. Therefore, there is no discrepancy between our statements,” he responded to comments made by Congress legislator Nana Patole regarding differing remarks made by himself and the Nagpur CP about the violence.
The Chief Minister insisted: “Maharashtra is a stable and progressive state recognized for its peace and harmony. The government will enforce strict measures against anyone who disturbs law and order in the state. No one should disrupt the tranquility of Maharashtra. If anyone attempts to do so, they will face severe consequences,” he warned.
The chief minister also stated that the government is working to enhance the crime conviction rate through effective actions.
Fadnavis added that a comprehensive plan has been established to address incidents of violence against women.
A dedicated women’s support cell has been created at the police unit level, ensuring that complaints from women are registered exclusively by female officials.
Courts will expedite cases filed under the Women and POCSO Acts. Initiatives like the Damini Squad, Nirbhaya Cell, and Bharosa Cell have been initiated. Furthermore, immediate assistance for women is available by dialing 112, which boasts the second-fastest response time in the country.
“Our aim is to attain the top spot. This number is integrated with central government agencies via the CCTNS system. Coordination cells have been established to combat immoral human trafficking. Additionally, a Visakha Committee has been formed to prevent atrocities against women,” he added.
According to the chief minister, Operation Muskan is being executed in the state to locate missing children. Twelve activities have successfully been completed under this initiative, which has received national recognition.
Through this operation, 38,910 children have been rescued in the state and reunited with their families. A specialized task force has been constituted under the POCSO Act, and assistance is available through the toll-free number 1098.
“The government is striving to diminish cybercrime rates in the state. To facilitate this, 51 labs have been established, and a headquarters named MahaCyber is located in Navi Mumbai. The state has implemented the most advanced system in this field nationwide. The cyber center is transitioning into a corporation, with considerations to professionalize this operation further.
“We are enhancing our capability to conduct cyber audits and aim to resolve cyber crimes within 24 hours of their occurrence. All banks and social media platforms are being integrated into the state’s cyber framework. Prompt action will be initiated to confirm crimes and recover defrauded amounts during the critical golden hour,” the Chief Minister concluded.
