Mumbai, Oct 22 (NationPress) Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has put an end to rumors regarding a potential move to Delhi, confidently declaring that he will remain in his current role until 2029.
He affirmed that there will be no alterations to the existing structure of the MahaYuti government.
“I will hold the position of Chief Minister of Maharashtra until 2029. To my knowledge, my party’s focus remains distant from Delhi,” he stated.
During a press conference at his official residence, Varsha, in celebration of Diwali, Fadnavis emphasized that there would be no cabinet reshuffle in Maharashtra, given that it has been less than a year since the last cabinet expansion.
“We will assess the performance of all ministers after a year, at which point we will consider any potential cabinet reshuffle,” he remarked.
Additionally, he indicated that there would be no new political partners or changes in alliances, asserting that the current coalition of the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP would remain consistent.
Fadnavis criticized opposition parties for raising concerns about discrepancies in the state’s voter list ahead of upcoming local and civic elections, which are mandated to conclude by January 31, 2026, as per a Supreme Court ruling.
He condemned the opposition's attempts to manipulate perceptions regarding the electoral rolls in light of the local and civic polls.
“They have neither raised objections nor made suggestions about the voter list, and they oppose a complete revision. Their true intention is to delay the local and civic elections without a valid reason,” he explained.
He expressed that the opposition fears that the local and civic elections may not favor them. Fadnavis assured that the BJP would soon reveal how the existing electoral rolls have been advantageous to the opposition.
Regarding the MahaYuti's strategy for the local and civic elections, he clarified, “We may not contest jointly in all municipal corporations. In several areas, the BJP holds the top position, while in others, there are different standings. Hence, we may opt for separate contests in specific locations. The MahaYuti will forge pragmatic alliances as necessary.”
On the collaboration between Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray for the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation elections, he commented, “If Raj Thackeray claims that I have united the two brothers on Marathi issues, I take that as a compliment.”
He reflected on previous criticisms regarding party splits, stating, “No external entity can dismantle a political party. Only personal ambitions and injustices can do that.”
Fadnavis expressed hope that the Thackeray brothers would remain united beyond the local and civic elections.
He emphasized that the “Thackeray brand” refers solely to Bal Thackeray, the founder of Shiv Sena, and no one else.
When asked about facilitating a tie-up between Raj and Uddhav Thackeray to destabilize Eknath Shinde, Fadnavis stated, “Just as I have a rapport with Raj Thackeray, Eknath Shinde shares a similar relationship.”
